Is it safe to use diapers all the time???

Just remember those days when you used cotton napkins with safety pins. How many times you had to change them. And think of the times when you gave your child to a dear one and in return of their blessings the baby soiled their clothes. Gone are the days of such embarrassments. The very invention of diapers has been a blessing for parents in modern times. Diapers have been the most convenient solution to one of the biggest parenting concerns. However, there are many myths regarding the use of the same. Regular usage of diapers is one of them. So lets answer the question, is it safe to use diapers all the time?

The views expressed in this article are based on my personal experience. My daughter Kaira is now two years old. When she was born, my mother suggested using soft cotton clothes instead of diapers. The cloth nappy was good to use initially as it could be washed and reused. However, when travelling with babies using cloth nappies becomes very difficult. I then switched to using diapers more often.

According to me, you can use diapers all the time provided you keep in mind the following points:

MAINTAINING PROPER HYGIENE

It is very important that we keep the baby’s diaper area clean and moisture free. So next time you change the diaper please ensure proper hygiene of the diaper area.

APPLY DIAPER RASH CREAM

I never forget to apply diaper rash cream before using a diaper. I use Sebamed’s Rash Cream and highly recommend it because I’ve never faced any issues using it. Kaira is two years old now and she never had rashes on her skin.

CHANGE THE DIAPER EVERY 4 HOURS (MAX.)

Even if the baby pees only once or twice ensure you change the diaper after every four hours at max.

LET THE SKIN AIR DRY

Before changing into a new diaper let the baby skin air dry for 15 to 20 minutes. This will help the baby be diaper free for some time and reduce chances of infections due to overexposure to chemicals used in the diapers.

USE DIAPERS WITH INDICATORS

These days diapers come with indicators to let you know when to change the them. I personally use Pampers Premium Care Pants which has a yellow line that turns to blue when the diaper is ready to change.

USE CLOTH DIAPERS

As an alternative to the synthetic diapers, you can use cloth diapers to avoid chemical exposure to the baby’s skin. These diapers are easy to reuse after cleaning.

I have been following the above mentioned steps diligently and have not faced any issue till now (touch wood). However,it is recommended to consult your pediatrician for any queries. I hope this solves the question, “Is it safe to use diapers all the time?”
